I am a fourth generation New Zealander of Scottish Viking heritage (County Argyll) on my father’s side and English on my mother’s. I have lived in Auckland most of my life, but also lived in London for a few years. I am a full-time freelance professional editor and work from home under the domineering presence of, and ownership by, a cat called Zen who tolerates me most of the time.
For more than 13 years I have edited and proofread many business articles, promotional material, medical articles and books, academic theses and manuscripts in many genres, including non-fiction, short stories, children’s books, theology and numerous types of novels. I managed an international magazine for a number of years and wrote a regular column in each issue. I have written one fictional short story, which was accepted by the first publisher I approached (Spinifex Press, Australia) and is included in a book called Cat Tales: The Meaning of Cats in Women’s Lives [ISBN 1-876756-37-3] – a collection of short stories by international authors. My story was actually written by Zen the cat, and is based on a real event involving Zen, a live rat and me.
But back to the important stuff... The best thing about the editing I do now is the enormous satisfaction I get in helping you, the author, improve your writing skills and by being part of the process of getting your creativity into print.
